Sometimes you have to look back at an evening to ask yourself, does it scan? Did it have a rhythm. A teleological purpose? What are these strange cadences that one utters when drunk of magueritas, and then later finds himself yelling at his computer, his aspirations now drowned like the ceremony of innocence as he makes quotidian arguments to a Succubus known as video editing software.
A strange evening. First I went to hear my good friend Carol read from her memoir. You can get a taste of Carol’s wit and wisdom on her new blog:, “No Clocks” at http://noclocks.wordpress.com/. I was also treated to a few poets, some of whom were inspiring and some of whom were just morose and monotonous. I’m not sure if it’s the poetry readings that have changed or if it’s me.
After that I came home to spend several hours finishing up Episode 7 of “The Retributioners.” As always, Steph and I are coming up against technical problems. We often try to pretend that we are better than amateurs, but then something like a lighting problem or a color matching problem comes along to humble us into submission. This week we have totally been pwnEd by our camera’s automatic lighting function, which has made many of the visuals uneven and distracting. I will just have to cross my fingers and hope the Retributioners fans can overlook some of the problems, as they always do. We’ve got a lot of talent involved in this latest episode and I want to show them in their best light.
[Editor’s note: since this was originally posted, my friend Carol has decided to discontinue her wonderful blog. I only hope that her wonderful samizdat musings are being pirated around somewhere.]
