You really ought to revisit Cheers. I find that even great works of art/drama/literature have at least a few visible seams, but that does not make them without value. Cheers obviously had and continues to have a big impact on you and that alone makes it worth further exploration.

Yes, toward then end of Diane's run, the show falters a bit as it tries to find its way into the future, and yes, the later seasons took the show in an entirely different direction, but for over four seasons, the show managed to be captivating and exciting and hilarious, at times almost magical in its effect, and I think that alone bears it to another level.

I certainly wouldn't hold Taxi up as any better than Cheers. Both series might have stayed too long at the dance, but in terms of writing quality, I don't think one stands head and shoulders above the other. The romance of Sam and Diane gives Cheers the edge in my book, as it was more ambitious and ground-breaking than Taxi in that regard, and is still a cultural reference and touchstone for not just television but film relationships that followed.

I see your point, Mark, though I see from my can of dark Goya kidney beans here that every ingredient down to the disodium EDTA is listed. (Yo, it preserves colorfastness!)If we can do that to a can of Goya food, I think that adding the three letters "GMO" in more complex items is a sensible compromise.

Here's a talking point: if you think labelling for GMO is important, then what about:

- food that has been subjected to ionising radiation (commonly used to preserve grain)
- food that has had pesticides used on it (the organic labelling, as you and I both know means nada)
- food that had had certain hormones fed to it
- country of origin of constituent food parts (eg does the beef in this dish come from somewhere they have mad cows?)

Note: I'm not particularly anti any of that...it's just if you support labelling, where do you stop?

Me? I'm more concerned with the false labelling on US food. Like Kobe beef that isn't: http://www.forbes.com/sites/larryolmsted/2012/04/12/foods-biggest-scam-the-great-kobe-beef-li
